Sorority Converges upon Anchorage for Leadership Conference
Biennial confab focused on leadership development, the environment and service
Over 1,400 members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority converged upon Anchorage, Alaska, from July 13-19, for its biennial Leadership Conference. Sorority leaders spent the week teaching members leadership skills, strategizing on how to improve the environment and serving the city of Anchorage. The city was considered an ideal setting for cultivating leaders because of its inspiring tableau of oceans, mountains and beauty.
It was also a perfect backdrop for discussing one of the Sorority's issues of concern: the environment. The Sorority pumped over $3 million into the economy by supporting its restaurants and tourism mission. Members also devoted a day to providing service to the city, which has an active chapter.
