Sorority Supports Tom Joyner's "Take A Loved One to the Doctor Day"
President says participation is a matter of life and death
As part of its mission to expand health awareness and economics, Alpha Kappa Alpha is partnering with Tom Joyner's "Take a Loved One to the Doctor Day." This event, which takes place April 7, is designed to raise health awareness in the African American community. Specifically, individuals are encouraged to make an appointment for themselves and a loved one to visit a health professional or health event.
This year, the thrust is targeting Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, Detroit, Miami, Philadelphia and Washington, DC.
As part of the partnership, chapters and members will mobilize to reach the goal of taking 250 loved ones to the doctor in each of the markets targeted.
To generate excitement, there will be Tom Joyner Morning Show live broadcast event in each of the cities.
As a show of solidarity, international president Barbara A. McKinzie asked chapters and members in these areas to support this initiative by exceeding the goal of 250 per market. She also urged members to attend the live broadcast and affiliate events and to wear the Sorority's signature Pink and Green colors. Directing the effort is Loann Honesty King, international chairman of the Sorority's Program Committee.
In issuing the call for members to participate, McKinzie said, "This is a noble effort that will be successful if Every Sister Participates. With African American communities more impacted by health challenges, our involvement is not only crucial, but also a matter of life and death."
